Kyle Rempfer is a contributor at Task & Purpose. He has been covering the U.S. military since 2017, often leveraging FOIA requests to break news and investigate notable events, from a secretive and fatal special operations deployment amid the war in Gaza, to mysterious explosions targeting a far-flung U.S. outpost in Syria.
He most recently worked at the Washington Post on the newspaper’s National Desk. Before entering journalism, Kyle served in Air Force Special Tactics as a combat controller. He was attached to an Army Green Beret team in southeastern Afghanistan and worked out of a strike cell in Baghdad during the Islamic State’s sweep through Iraq.
