Chris Roessner enlisted in the Army during the summer of 2001 to cover the cost of his future education. After a deployment to Iraq, Roessner returned home, jaded from his time with the 4th Infantry Division attached to a civil affairs unit. He put those experiences on paper in the form of the script that would go on to become “Sandcastle,” a 2017 Netflix film about an Army unit responsible for restoring water in a small Iraqi village during the war.
While trying to capture the mundane realities of conflict and the complex relationships that exist between local communities and the military, the plot falls a bit flat. Tune in and hear what Patrick, Adam, and guest host AJ think and hear Adam’s newest rating system.
