Welcome to The Gear List, a semi-regular series where we spotlight the best discounts and deals on tactical equipment, outdoor gear, and everything in between.

I’ve had a soft spot for Cold Steel knives ever since the eternally belligerent Staff Sgt. Bob Barnes (played by Tom Berenger) rocked one of the company’s iconic push daggers strapped to his kit during Platoon, and that soft spot has only grown over time. From trusty everyday carry knives like the American Lawman to more uniquely designed models like the eye-catching Spartan, I appreciate Cold Steel’s craftsmanship, its attention to detail, and, most importantly, the batshit insane knife testing videos that have earned the brand millions of views across the Internet. So when I stumbled across this excellent deal on a reliable Cold Steel survival rescue knife, I had to stop and take notice.

The Cold Steel SRK — which, yes, stands for “survival rescue knife” — is a fixed blade with a lot of attitude. Billed as the “standard issue knife of Navy SEALs” for the duration of Basic Underwater Demolition (BUD/S) training by the company (I reached out to Naval Special Warfare Command to make sure this is true and will update if I hear back), the 8.2 oz full tang knife comes with a 6-inch SK-5w steel blade and a 4.75-inch Kray-Ex handle. With this pedigree and build, the mid-sized knife should be a staple of every survival kit.

Normally, the Cold Steel SRK MRSPs for $69.99 on the company’s website and is currently out of stock. Luckily for you, this rugged and versatile survival knife is currently available for just $44.85 on Amazon for a tidy 36 percent savings.

The Cold Steel SRK isn’t the only worthy addition to your kit on today’s edition of The Gear List. Check out more deals below, and as always, happy hunting!
