Shia LaBeouf was arrested late on July 8 in Savannah, Georgia, for drunken and disorderly conduct. Given the actor’s reputation, the charge isn’t super shocking. What’s new, however, is Shia’s claim — delivered while in police custody — that he served in the National Guard. Though LaBeouf did embed with a National Guard unit while researching his role in Fury, that’s a far cry from real service. In fact, it’s something like a high school JROTC cadet claiming to be an officer. But hey, Shia didn’t steal valor, he just borrowed a bit.
