Paralyzed Veterans of America is a life-long partner and advocate for PVA Members (veterans with spinal cord injury or disorders) and other veterans with disabilities. For nearly 75 years, PVA has ensured that veterans receive the benefits earned through service to our nation; monitored their care in VA spinal cord injury units; and funded research and education in the search for a cure and improved care for individuals with paralysis. PVA also develops training and career services, works to ensure accessibility in public buildings and spaces, and provides health and rehabilitation opportunities through sports and recreation. With more than 70 offices and 33 chapters, Paralyzed Veterans of America serves veterans, their families and their caregivers in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
Paralyzed Veterans of America’s Veterans Career Program, offers high-touch, one-on-one support to the veteran community to help them find meaningful employment, education or volunteer opportunities. This unique program supports the entire veteran community, but specializes in those who have significant barriers to employment, such as a catastrophic injury. The program assists with everything from resume development to instilling the confidence that is necessary in the job search.
PVA’s Sports and Recreation program strives to improve the quality of life for paralyzed veterans and other persons with disabilities through adaptive sports and recreation programs that promote a healthy and active lifestyle. Traditionally this has been through in-person sporting events, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic virtual events were launched. We have launched online wheelchair dancing, a monthly book club, adaptive yoga and cycling, and other programs and in-person events such as adaptive cycling, bass fishing, billiards and many others.
