Between a pandemic, an economic crisis, a nationwide reckoning on race and raging wildfires, this summer’s been a weird one for everyone.

But there’s one summer treat we can all rely on: adorable pictures of dogs playing in sun-dazzled lakes.

Rejoice America, because the Coast Guard came through, providing us with a plethora of shots of their unofficial mascots and community liaisons: Thor and Loki.

“Today, our crew shared some time with the twins, throwing the life ring and soaking in the sun!” Coast Guard Station Marquette wrote on Facebook on Wednesday along with pictures of the two Vizsla-Labs living their best life on Lake Superior. “Thor and Loki primarily focused on just splashing around and retrieving the ring … but hey … who could blame them?”

Where did such magnificent beasts come from, you ask? The rescue dogs were adopted in June 2019 from a local animal shelter, the Coast Guard wrote in a July Instagram post. The boys were just days away from being put down, but now they spend their days “swimming, sleeping, playing and posing for pictures for our units Facebook page,” the the Coast Guard station wrote.

The doggos live full-time at Station Marquette, reported Michigan news outlet MLive.com in July, and they are best known for being the faces of “Safety Tip Tuesday,” the station's weekly Facebook safety briefs.

And boy, are they photogenic! Whether the backdrop is a sunny lake or cold winter ice, Thor and Loki always look the part of safe, fun-loving water sportsmen.

So which one's Thor and which one's Loki? They appear identical, but if you look closely, you can see that Thor has a slightly sparser white chest fluff, while Loki has a more solid white chest fluff. Subtle, very subtle.

As summer wraps up into fall, we can't wait to see Thor and Loki continue to wag our tails and help us stay safe out there — as long as the safety tips don't involve catching tennis balls.
