A Marine standing post near the House of the Commandants at the Corps’ 8th and I Street barracks in Washington suffered a “self-inflicted gunshot wound” on Friday, Corps officials said. The Marine is in stable condition and being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident happened about 8 a.m.; the Marine was taken to George Washington University Hospital, a news release from Marine Barracks Washington says.

No details were immediately available on how the Marine was wounded. The incident is under investigation, the news release says.
