Military service comes with a lot of rough deals and uneven trade-offs, and while there are occasional perks while you’re in, they tend to drop off once you get out. But now there’s some good news for vets: Lowe’s has expanded its military discount to include honorably discharged military veterans and retirees.

As of May 1, active-duty troops, retirees, and veterans are all able to take advantage of the home improvement chain’s 10% online shopping discount, free parcel shipping, and have access to faster checkout and self-checkout options at brick-and-mortar locations.

To take advantage of the deal, current and former service members need only sign up online. After providing identification and proof of service, they’ll receive a Lowe’s card to show at stores for the discount and benefits.

The discount is linked with your Lowe’s account and can be shared by an entire household, according to Military Times. Additionally, once you’ve received your card, you won’t have to show ID or proof of service at checkout, which for some veterans can be a bit of a pain, as not everyone has a Veteran Affairs ID card or carries a laminated copy of their DD214 in their back pocket.

Sure, and while nobody joins up because they’re really that excited about a damn discount (hopefully), it’s still a nice gesture from the retail chain. After all, you can’t put a price on shorter lines when you’ve got 20 -pounds of discount mulch and dirt to buy for sandbags, err, gardening.

Yeah… gardening …. definitely not going to use this to turn my basement apartment into a bunker. Hopefully I won’t end up like Brendan Fraser in “Blast from the Past.”
