RAND Corporation recently summarized some of the findings in the Defense Department’s survey on military health. Here are the ones that struck me:

  • 19.4% have had more than one sex partner in the past year
  • 6.1% identified as lesbian, gay, bisexual or trans
  • 61.3% have deployed
  • 9.9% met criteria for PTSD
  • 37.8 percent have chronic pain
  • 1.4% reported a suicide attempt during the previous year
  • 8.6% take sleep medications almost daily

Finally, one that surprised me: 65.7% are overweight.
