Save serious cash with these 14 discounts for military kids

April is the Month of the Military Child and the perfect month to plan for some fantastic activities and trips for your family. Here are 14 military discounts for military children and their families.

1. National Park pass

Current military members and dependents from all five branches as well as most Reserve and National Guard members can receive a free National Parks pass. This pass will allow the holder as well as the other passengers in their car to enter any federally operated recreation sites. The pass also covers the holder and up to three additional adults 16+ in parks where entry fees are charged. Ages 15 and under are free.

2. ASTC Museums

ASTC (Association of Science Technology Centers) is the perfect museum for children of all ages. From learning about science to fun ways to learn about the word, there is usually something for every age. They offer different military discounts depending on where you get your membership. You can use the pass at over 300 locations that participate in the ASTC Travel passport program.

3. Regal and AMC movie theaters

Make sure to take advantage of the military discounts Regal and AMC theaters have. The amount might vary based on your location, but the discount will be about $1 off ticket prices.

4. JCPenny Portraits

Get your child’s photos done with JCPenny Portraits with their military discount. You will receive a free 8 x 10, free session fees, a $99 digital album, and 50 percent off of your photo purchase or $3.99 traditional portrait sheets. You will need to show your military ID with the printable coupon.

5. The Children’s Place

This children’s store will give you 10 percent off your purchase with a valid military ID.

6. Old Navy

Old Navy has a 10 percent military Monday discount once a week; however, some Old Navy stores will honor this every day. Just make sure to ask.

7. Stride Rite

If you need to buy shoes, this store will give you 10 percent8 off with a valid military ID or a .mil email address. This discount can’t be combined with other discounts.

8. Amusement parks

Most amusement parks in the US do offer a military discount so make sure you look into any of the parks you plan to go to. Dollywood, Knott’s Berry Farm, and Legoland all offer a discount off of ticket prices. Disney has their Military Salute discounted tickets. Sea World, Busch Gardens, and Sesame Place gives you a free ticket for the service member as well as three extra tickets for dependants.

9. Zoos

Check your local zoo for discounts. For example, the San Diego and Atlanta zoos offer a free one-day pass for service members. The Nashville and San Antonio zoos have $1 off for service members and their families. Some zoos may also have military appreciation days.

10. Sittercity

This site is the perfect place to go to find a babysitter, nanny, a petsitter, housekeeper and more. They do offer a military discount of 25 percent off the monthly or annual fee and 50 percent off the quarterly fee.

11. Blue Star Museums

The National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and museums across America have worked together to offer free admission to active-duty personnel and their families including those in the National Guard and Reserve. The program takes place from Memorial Day through Labor Day and is available at participating museums nationwide.

12. Chuck E. Cheese

This game place and restaurant is always a lot of fun for kids of all ages. They have two special offers for military families: one large pizza, four drinks, and 45 tokens for $26.99; or two large pizzas, four drinks, and 100 tokens for $44.99.

13. State fairs

Most state fairs have military appreciation days where military members and their families can get in free or for a discounted rate. Check your local state fair calendar to see when those days are and make plans to go.

14. Great Wolf Lodge

This resort with its own indoor waterpark is the perfect place to take your military kids for vacation. Their program, Howling Heroes, which will save you up to 30 percent off the cost of the resort. This includes the use of the waterpark, kids activities, and story time with character appearances. The discount is for active and retired military.
