These 5 companies go out of their way to support the military community

Military families love discovering companies that support us. We appreciate any military discount that we hear about, but beyond that, we want to know who is going out of their way to support our military community. These companies have done just that.

1. Starbucks

Starbucks has a fantastic Starbucks partner program for hiring veterans and military spouses.  This program was started in 2013 and has helped many veterans and spouses find a career they can excel in. They’ve hit their goal of hiring 10,000 people a year early and set a new goal of hiring 25,000 by 2025. They also are hoping to open 100 more stores that are welcoming and supportive of military communities. They have partnered with the American Red Cross and the USO to provide coffee to troops overseas. They provided over 220,000 three packs of Starbucks VIA to the USO for their care package program.

2. Verizon

In 2007, Verizon used a state-of-the-art mobile communications facility so that service members could call home for free on Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and the Fourth of July. They also have a passion for veteran hiring and have developed a military skills match program. This is a tool that will offer the candidates the ability to quickly search for jobs based on military service, branch, or military specialty. In 2013, they hired 1,000 veterans, reservists, and military spouses. Verizon was awarded top military employer by the Military Times and they claim that 85% of military jobs will translate to Verizon civilian jobs. They also offer a generous military discount for those who use their services.

3. Nestlé Purina

Launched in 2015, Project Opportunity is a career acceleration initiative to help people of all ages gain work experience and strengthen their skills in food and beverage manufacturing. They have formed a national partnership with Hiring Our Heroes to help veterans and the military community find jobs. In March of 2017, Nestlé Purina led a Project Opportunity event with Hiring Our Heroes at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. They also had a Veterans Day event with guest speakers from Dogs on Deployment and Purina’s leadership team. They also partnered with various organizations to provide military members with interview training as well as resume-writing guidance.

4. Coca-Cola

Coca-Cola has been actively supporting the military since 1941. The former company president, Robert Woodruff, committed “to see that every man in uniform gets a bottle of Coca-Cola for five cents, wherever he is and whatever it costs the Company.” They initiated a partnership with the USO that same year that is still going on today. They have provided military personal with more than two million beverage servings each day. They partnered with Hire Heroes USA and American Corporate Partners to host career workshops and networking sessions. Coca-Cola has a goal of hiring 5,000 veterans by 2018. There is also an annual Veterans Day celebration and they offer complimentary admission for service members to the World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta, GA.

5. Anheuser-Busch

From their military-supporting Budweiser commercials to their behind-the-scenes work, Anheuser-Busch has done a lot for the military community. Since 1987, they have donated $11 million to military charities such as the USO, Fisher House, and America Supports You. They helped found the US Military Sports Association, an organization that supports our uniformed men and women’s sports activities, and donated more than 18,000 pieces of sports equipment to troops in Afghanistan and Iraq. In 2005, they launched a Here’s to the Heroes tour where they visited 28 cities and allowed visitors to record 10-30 second messages of support that were given to US troops in 177 countries via the American Forces Radio and Television service. Budweiser has a partnership with Folds of Honor, an organization that helps honor the sacrifice and legacy of our nation’s heroes. This partnership has led to bar fundraisers, country music concerts, and raising funds for scholarships for spouses and children of service members.
