Dear Maryland,

My name is Jennifer Pilcher, small business owner, and proud Navy spouse of CDR Eddie Pilcher.  We live in Maryland, my company, Strategic Military Communications, LLC, is a registered entity in Maryland, and our two children, Katie and Griffin, attend Maryland schools.

We love Maryland.

My husband is about to hit the 20-year mark in his Navy career and we are in the middle of making some tough decisions regarding our future. A large part of that is deciding where we will eventually retire and settle.  At the top of our list is Maryland.

A tax on military retirement is the reason we would leave the state.

On Tuesday, March 15th, you have the power to keep our family here and thousands of other families just like us. Not only do we want to retire in Maryland, but we want to keep our business here, be employed here, raise our children here, and positively contribute to the community.

Maryland State Senate Bill 660, which is currently being debated now, would exempt 100% of retired military pay from the Maryland state income tax. It has bi-partisan support as well as support from Gov. Hogan. If you do not already support the bill, I strongly encourage you to vote for Maryland Senate Bill 660.

As founder and president of, the #1 resource website for military and veteran families that reaches millions of people a month worldwide across multiple platforms. was born in Maryland in 2011 and has employed many military spouses and veterans from the state of Maryland over the past 5 years.  We continue to have our headquarters located in Maryland and now hire military spouses and veterans from around the world.

On Monday March 14, MilitaryOneClick is honored to partner with Starbucks to host a Veterans’ Fireside Chat at the Annapolis Harbour Center Starbucks Store from 6-8 PM.  We invite all Maryland veterans and military families who are concerned about this issue, as well as other pressing veteran issues, to join our discussion.  We also invite representatives who want to hear directly from an engaged community of Maryland veterans.

For many of us, this is not just business, it’s personal. I encourage you to vote for Maryland Senate Bill 660 on Tuesday, March 15th.
