It’s a new year! Many of us look at that as an opportunity for a fresh start. Throughout the year our lives tend to get cluttered. We look around and wonder where all this stuff came from. Or we look at our lives, our schedules, and wonder how we committed ourselves to so many different things. We try to figure out how our plates possibly got so full.

As the new year dawns, it is a perfect opportunity to sit down and declutter your life. This can mean going through your house and getting rid of physical things that are no longer needed. It can also mean reassessing your schedule and deciding what is truly important to commit your time to.

If you are feeling overwhelmed and stressed out, then it might be time to take a look at all of your commitments and simply choose the ones that are the most important, and take a step back from the others. There is nothing wrong with saying no, and putting yourself and your mental health first. There is no reason why you have to spend another year with your time stretched thin.

It’s not always easy to take a step back and to say no to things that seem important at the time. However, if you bring yourself to do exactly that you may just find that you are happier because you have time to give to the truly important things in life.
