All 2,700 Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) facilities will remain open during the duration of the federal government shutdown, AAFES has announced. Exchanges are part of the DoD; however, as a nonappropriated fund entity, its budget is almost completely covered by its own sales.

The announcement includes all properties owned and operated by AAFES, regardless of location. Department and convenience stores, food courts, malls, and movie theaters that are CONUS and OCONUS, including those that are in combat zones, are subject to the AAFES policy.

In addition,, AAFES website that is a digital extension of their brick-and-mortar stores, will continue to operate.
