Today, Dr. Jill Biden and Department of Defense leadership announced that 34 companies are stepping forward to join the Department of Defense Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP), which helps connect military spouses with jobs. These 34 companies join more than 100 of the Fortune 500 “Plus” companies that already employ America’s military spouses. MSEP, launched by Dr. Biden last June, has expanded rapidly in less than one year.
The Partnership’s member companies have pledged to recruit, hire, promote and retain military spouses in portable careers. More than 22,000 military spouses have been hired and more than 446,140 jobs have been posted on the MSEP jobs web portal (https://msepjobs.militaryonesource.mil).
Today’s announcement includes companies like Goodwill Industries, MetLife, Safeway (Vons), and Volt Workforce Solutions. Representatives from these top companies will participate in a MSEP Partner Induction Ceremony at the Pentagon today. During this ceremony, companies will sign the MSEP Statement of Support which pledges to:
Increase employment opportunities for military spouses;
Maintain employment status for military spouses as they relocate;
Provide career promotion opportunities for military spouses; and
Support pay equity for military spouses commensurate with their level of training, work experience, accomplishments and credentials.
The new partners will be welcomed by over 100 business executives from current MSEP partners, members of Congress, military Service Secretaries, senior military spouses of the Services, and military spouse employees of MSEP employment Partners.
The incoming partners also participated in the 2012 MSEP Spring Partnership meeting, which took place on Wednesday, May 16. Together, the Department of Defense is collaborating with the Partners to shape the evolution and expansion of the MSEP Program by addressing key program components that include application of the MSEP jobs career portal and reporting of spouses hired, communications and marketing, strategic organization, and mentoring programs for military spouses and partners.
