Did you make a New Year’s resolution?

It’s 2020 and the start of every New Year comes with the promise to do better. Or rather, the challenge to do better. And while the idea of a resolution might be a social norm that allows us to make real changes in our lives, it’s also one that makes it “ok” to essentially bail on our plans ASAP.

But what if, instead of choosing a resolution that was hard, we chose one that we actually wanted to keep? A change that we’ve been wanting to make, but maybe didn’t know how to make the transition? Or were you unsure about the process as a whole?

In order to strive toward your best self this year, find a solution that you actually want to make stick. (And yes, it’s ok that the year has already started … after all, we’re breaking ALL the rules.)

Next, find a buddy or partner who can help keep you on track. Whether it’s weight loss, stopping with the vape, or trying to be more kind, voicing the change out loud can help keep you accountable. And let’s face it, when making a big attitude adjustment, we need all the help we can get! Be sure and tell them WHY you want to make said change. The more information they have, the easier it will be for them to help keep you in check, especially when you have a moment of weakness. (And don’t we all?)

You can also hold yourself accountable with check-ins. Write dates on the calendar and allow yourself rewards when each milestone is hit. Be sure and make it GOOD, too. After all, you’re working hard for these rewards!

But then the biggest reward of them all is you getting to achieve a lifestyle change that you’ve been longing to make a reality.

Are you ready to make your resolution STICK for the rest of the year (and beyond?) You can do it! All it takes is a little effort and a system to keep yourself in check.

Did you make a resolution this year? How will you keep it long-term?
