On November 10, 1775, the Marine Corps was established when the Second Continental Congress decided they needed two Marine battalions to serve as landing forces with the Continental Navy during the Revolutionary War.

After the war, the Continental Navy was disbanded, and this resulted in the same thing for the Marines. However, with the increasing conflict with France, the Marine Corps was officially established.

Every year the members of the Marine Corps celebrate this date with the Marine Corps Ball. This tradition began in 1925. It includes a formal dinner, birthday cake, and entertainment.

Outside the members of the Marine Corps, November 10 is a day to acknowledge the forming of this branch of the military and to thank those who serve as a part of it.

Do you know someone who is serving or as served in the Marine Corps?
