There is nothing more American than baseball in the summer and football in the fall – until the Government shuts down.  Yes, the Government even shutdown the one and only TV station, called Armed Forces Network,  the troops can watch in Afghanistan and other deployed areas.  This TV station provides much needed morale with the current major league play offs and Sunday night football, making them feel a little bit closer to home.  Not anymore.

The Government Shutdown is killing morale – with troops, military families, government workers who support our military and basically the entire nation.  I didn’t even know how and where to start this post because I am so frustrated!

Therefore,  I decided I am going to focus on the one thing that I think is so vital to the success of our military members and that is you – the person supporting us.  Over 70% of military families now live off – base, which was not the case 10 – 15 years ago.  We are your neighbors, living among  civilians in towns dotted across America.  Now more than ever, our military needs the support and morale from our community – our civilian family.

I am so fortunate to have incredible neighbors who always have my back when my husband is gone.  They had us over for dinner on Sunday night and even sent me home with leftovers.  This meant the world to me!  My son missed his soccer practice on Monday night and I received this message from his coach, “Hi Jen -I know you must be crazy busy with Eddie overseas, just wanted to check in as we missed seeing Griffin at practice tonight. There’s no problem missing practice of course, this is U8 boys soccer, not the Olympic team.
But if you’ve got conflicts getting Griffin to practice or games over the next few weeks, let me know and I’ll see if myself or another parent can help out with rides. Hope all is well…Jack.”

It is the support of the community  that will make the difference for our military families.  I posted a message on MilitaryOneClick’s Facebook page the other day to say, “Even though the Government is shutdown, we are always open, 24/7.”  This is how I feel about our civilian families supporting our military – you are always open, 24/7, thank you for having our back. “Everyone Serves!”
