The good folks at the North American Aerospace Defense Command have been semi-officially tracking Santa’s annual Christmas journey across the globe since 1955 when the command sent out a press release stating their mission “to track and guard Santa and his sleigh on his trip to and from the U.S. against possible attack from those who do not believe in Christmas.”

But this year NORAD has taken that mission to a whole new 21st Century tech-savvy level. NoradSanta.org is chock full of bleeding-edge functionality that would make any Silicon Valley code writer envious. Visitors to the site can see animation of Santa and the reindeer “real time” as they make their way across the planet. The view can be changed with the cursor to show a bunch of different angles, including where Santa has been and where he’s going next.

NORAD has also created a Santa tracking app for mobile users.
