The Air Force’s ninth volume of Portraits in Courage depicts 24 airmen who have shown bravery in combat. Drawn from a wide range of career fields, each of the selected service members shares a common trait: courage on the battlefield.
One such airman is Tech. Sgt. Patrick McGillivray, an explosive ordnance disposal technician, who exhibited bravery in the face of enemy fire on three separate occasions --- repelling an attack from 25 insurgents, treating the wounds of critically injured comrades while under fire, and sprinting through a hail of gunfire to retrieve much-needed ammunition. Another is Tech. Sgt. Thomas Bauhs, who continued to call in air strikes on targets under a barrage of enemy fire.
