An explosion at the Letterkenny Army Depot in Pennsylvania left three with burn injuries Thursday morning.
- The three victims were transported by air from the Franklin County military operation to hospitals and at least one other person was treated on the scene, the depot's commander, Col. Stephen Ledbetter, said in a news conference.
- “There has been an explosion in the industrial area at Bldg 350,” the army depot said on its Facebook page in a post that has since been deleted. “The incident is contained and will not affect depot operations or workforce safety elsewhere. There were injuries that fire and emergency services have treated and individuals have been transported to medical facilities.”
- The Chambersburg, Pa. base also posted a message asking employees not to share any information about the incident to their own social media pages.
- There is no suspicion of terrorist activity, Ledbetter said, but the exact cause of the explosion was not made immediately clear.
- Franklin Fire Company shared on social media that there was an active fire in the building where the explosion took place and said its trucks were on the scene just after 7:15 a.m.
Letterkenny Army Depot wrote on its website that its work is dedicated to crafting air defense tactical missile ground support equipment, mobile electric power generation equipment, Patriot Missile recertification and route guidance vehicles.
The facility is about 160 miles west of Philadelphia.
