US service member killed in non-combat incident in Iraq

A U.S. service member was killed in a non-combat related incident in Iraq over the weekend, the Defense Department announced on Wednesday.

Army Sgt. Nathaneil G. Irish, 23, of Billings, Montana, died during an incident at Camp Taji, Iraq on Sunday while supporting Operation Inherent Resolve, the U.S-led mission to defeat ISIS in Iraq and Syria.

Irish was assigned to 25th Brigade Support Battalion, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, at Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

The incident is under investigation.
