# US service member tests positive for coronavirus in South Korea in first for military

A U.S. service member in South Korea has tested positive for COVID-19, otherwise known as coronavirus, in a first for the U.S. military.

- According to [a U.S. Forces Korea press release](<https://www.usfk.mil/Media/News/Article/2094200/usfk-service-member-confirmed-with-covid-19/>) on Tuesday night, a 23-year-old male soldier stationed at Camp Carroll is under self-quarantine at his off-base residence.
- The soldier visited Camp Walker on Feb. 24 and Camp Carroll from Feb. 21-25, per the release.
- Health professionals "are actively conducting contact tracing to determine whether any others may have been exposed," according to the release.
- U.S. Forces Korea previously [announced a two-week self-quarantine](<https://taskandpurpose.com/news/coronavirus-south-korea-us-military-quarantine/>) on Feb. 2 for any and all service members who visited China between Jan. 19 and Feb. 2.
