Veterans Score High On ‘Learning Agility’ Test

Executives, entrepreneurs, and corporate leaders who work with the talent management group Korn Ferry, found that on average, veterans scored higher than their civilian counterparts on “learning agility” tests. Learning agility indicates a leader's ability to respond, adapt to, and ultimately succeed in new situations — so for anyone who has spent time in any branch of the military, it’s not shocking that veterans do well in these areas.

The test took place during the Leveraging Military Leadership Program, which was designed to help veterans transition out of military service and into the civilian sector, but with a more targeted approach, rather than the typical resume and cover letter workshops. On the whole, veterans scored well in categories where they needed to accept criticism, learn from mistakes, or think on their feet, but scored lower on their “change agility” — which indicates they “may enjoy or be accustomed to a command-control environment where efficiency and predictability are emphasized,” said Korn Ferry's Noah Rabinowitz.
