Marine Commandant Gen Neller Shows The Right Way To Respond To Criticism From Within
The lead letter in the January issue of the Marine Corps Gazette is a salute from Commandant Gen. Robert Neller thanking the magazine for the articles
Last month, I commented on all the critical articles running in the Marine Corps Gazette, saying that one could imagine “the commandant sitting down to read the Gazette in his easy chair one evening and having his hair standing on end after reading an article or two.”
Marine Corps Commandant Gen. Robert Neller did in fact react to them, but more graciously than that.
The lead letter in the January issue of the Gazette is a salute from him, thanking the magazine for the articles.
They “were not only thought provoking,” he writes, “they were written by young aspiring leaders of our Corps with recent experiences closest to the flame.” In order to be adaptive, he adds, the Corps requires just this sort of “insatiable intellectual curiosity and the courage to advocate fresh, unconventional and sometimes controversial ideas.”
Well said, sir.
