Appliance Company That Sued Service Members Closes Stores Nationwide

USA Discounters, an appliance store accused of selling overpriced merchandise to military service on high-interest loans, began closing its doors around the country. The closures come in the wake of an investigation by ProPublica that found the retailer was selling its products at two to three times the normal retail price. The investigation, and multiple lawsuits, may have driven the national chain of stores to liquidate.

“The chain, which once had 24 stores, almost all right outside military bases around the country, has been holding a rolling going out of business sale,” writes Paul Kiel. “The closures follow our investigation of the company’s lending practices last summer and a subsequent series of government inquiries and Department of Defense actions.”
