Delaware Congressman Says Choice Cards, Community Clinics Not Working For Vets

With Veterans Affairs clinics facing staffing issues, and veterans having difficulty using the Choice Card Program, Congress and the VA might want to consider changing the program rules, said Rep. John Carney of Delaware, on July 27, speaking at a benefits event for veterans at the American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro, Delaware.

“The reason for having the CBOCs (community-based outpatient clinics) was to bring care closer to the vets, so they didn’t have to travel all the way up to Elsmere,” said Carney, referring to the VA hospital in Wilmington. But if that’s not working, he continued: “Should we think about doing away with them?”
