An F-16 returning to March Air Reserve Base in Moreno Valley after a routine training mission crashed after its hydraulics failed and its pilot ejected, base officials said Thursday.

The jet crashed into a building off the base, on Van Buren Boulevard near the 215 Freeway, about 3:45 p.m.

Captured on a dashboard camera by a commuter on the freeway, the jet appeared to be leaning to one side as it dropped to the ground outside the base.

An F-16 fighter jet and military helicopter intercepted a single-engine aircraft that strayed into restricted airspace and was not in communication with air traffic controllers on Saturday, according to a statement released by the North American Aerospace Defense Command.

A Royal Netherlands F-16 Fighting Falcon scored a direct hit on itself in January, according to Dutch state broadcaster NOS.

During a training exercise involving two F-16's over the island of Vlieland on Jan. 21, one pilot opened fire with the Vulcan cannon and found "at least one fired cartridge caused damage" to the plane's exterior and engine, NOS wrote.

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - Pakistan's F-16 combat jets have all been accounted for, Foreign Policy magazine said, citing U.S. officials, contradicting an Indian air force assessment that it had shot down one of the jets in February.
