Online job databaseCareerCast released its annual job rankings list on Thursday, and to nobody’s surprise, “enlisted military” came in 197th out of 200 occupations, making it the fourth-worst job in the United States. The surprising thing, however, is that the profession is slipping: Last year, it was only the fifth worst.
If you’ve served in the military you understand stress intimately. The amount of shit you put up with in the service varies, or takes different forms depending on what your job is, who you work for, or what branch you’re in. But, the key thing is that military service comes with stress, especially for those of us who enlist.

Not everyone who joins the military does it in the altruistic name of national service. Some people need the military as much as it needs them, whether it’s to pay for college, support a family, or just get out of your podunk town and see the world.
