PARIS/BAMAKO (Reuters) - Thirteen French soldiers were killed in Mali when their helicopters collided at low altitude as they swooped in at nightfall to support ground forces engaged in combat with Islamist militants.
It was the biggest loss of French troops in a single day since an attack in Beirut 36 years ago when 58 soldiers died.

In what can accurately be described as a total f*cking nightmare, a 64-year-old civilian passenger was accidentally ejected from a French Air Force Dassault Rafale B fighter jet during takeoff from Saint-Dizier Airfield, a French military spokesman said.
French President Emmanuel Macron is seriously considering bringing back military conscription. While the U.S. hasn't had mandatory military service since 1973, some think that it has many positive aspects.
