Boy there is a lot I didn’t know.
–When crusty Lord Kames stepped down from Scotland’s Court of Justiciary in 1782, he is said to have gleefully exclaimed to the other judges, “Fare ye weel, ye bitches!” OG, no?
–During the Civil War, Jefferson C. Davis, the oddly named Union general, shot and killed a unarmed superior officer over an insult, but was never charged or tried. It would have been fun to write a letter of reprimand: “Please don’t shoot other Federal generals, sir.”
–During World War II, the Navy operated a paddlewheel–driven aircraft carrier. It steamed around the Great Lakes, for use as a training ship for new naval aviators. (That’s it in the photo above.)
