Cashe was injured Oct. 17, 2005, when an IED detonated next to his vehicle. Drenched in fuel, Cashe continued to pull his Soldiers from the burning vehicle, suffering burns to more than 80 percent of his body. He later died of his injuries, Nov. 8, 2005.
