About
Joel Mason did six years in the Iowa Army National Guard as an infantryman with one tour in Afghanistan. Now he teaches firearms courses through his business, Libertas Instruction, as a USCCA Certified Instructor.
Experience
I joined the National Guard during high school, attended the Fort Benning School for Wayward Boys in 2009, and deployed to Laghman province in Afghanistan in 2011 with the 34th Infantry Division. I was primarily a mounted gunner, and sometimes a dismount.
Certified in CCHDF by the USCCA in 2020, I began training others in person and online on daily carry and home defense, in an effort to share good knowledge based on realistic scenarios.
Also started writing about gear I already owned, so doing it for Task & Purpose made plenty of sense, and helps me try new gear I can recommend to others.
I’ve been a featured speaker for the Tactical Awareness Series by Clothing in Armor, and I’ve been retweeted by Braxton McCoy, so I’m basically Twitter famous. I also have both a blue cord AND a Combat Infantry Badge, so buy my tee shirts. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
