Well, it’s nearly Christmas and very nearly the end of 2025. It’s been quite a year in military news, and while we’re grateful you’ve been with us through it all, we (like you) are ready for a break.
Over the past year, we’ve covered many stories that are worth acknowledging. Now, the typical format for a note like this is for me to rattle off a bunch of examples of our coverage, link to them, and basically pat ourselves on the back while getting a few more clicks for the website before the year wraps up. But, I’m gonna skip that, partly because it’s self-aggrandizing and overdone, but mostly because that feels like more work than I want to do right now.
Instead, I’ll just say that as proud as I am of this team — and I am very proud of this small scrappy crew — I know that the best stories we’ve published have been the ones that you, the members of this community, have sent our way. Without your input, we wouldn’t be able to cover this beat, much less make the lived experiences of veterans, service members and their families accessible to a broader audience.
And so to those of you who have lent us your voice — either by dropping us tips, taking our calls, responding to emails, leaving us comments on the site or on social — we’re incredibly grateful, and we hope you get some well-deserved rest this holiday season, too.
So, whether your time off means traveling to visit family and friends, a quiet stay at home, a week of binge-gaming and freedom from bullshit at the barracks, or a raucous block of leave before returning to your duty station, we here at Task & Purpose want to wish you merry Christmas, happy holidays, and if we don’t see you before then, well, happy New Year, too.
For those abroad, we hope (and trust) that you’re in good company and that you and your buddies are making the best of whatever situation you find yourselves in.
In terms of news, we’ll be taking things easy on our end through the rest of the year. While we will still cover major events as they arise, if you see a drop in the number of stories we’ve published, it’s because we’re taking some time off and, frankly, you should, too.
We’ll see you all in 2026, and we can’t wait to continue covering news about and for this community.
