A new study by the Center for Talent Innovation says that nearly one-third of veterans hide their injuries from civilian employers and downplay their service to get along with coworkers.
“There are a raft of stigmas and stereotypes that go along with being a veteran, some not positive, so people are reticent,” said Charles Sevola, Prudential’s vice president of veterans initiatives, who served as an Army communications officer until 1990.
Further statistics within the study suggest that transition leaves veterans dissatisfied with their civilian careers, with 57% of working veterans who don’t aspire to move up in their jobs and 39% who feel stuck in their current positions.
