A U.S. service member assigned to the NATO-led Resolute Support mission was killed in Afghanistan on Thursday, defense officials announced, the seventh American service member to die in combat there this year.
- The Pentagon has not yet identified the fallen or wounded service members pending next of kin notification. This incident is under investigation.
- The incident comes one month after Army Command Sgt. Maj. Timothy A. Bolyard was killed in an apparent insider attack in eastern Afghanistan on Sept. 3
- “We mourn and honor the sacrifice of our service member,” U.S. Forces-Afghanistan commander Gen. Scott Miller said in a statement. “We remain committed.”
