History of Animals in the Military: from Bears to Bees

Video Duration:
10:29

Everyone knows about Army and Marine Corps dogs and horses. Military history shows us they will try anything once, with all the strange service animals they've been through in history.

Bees, cattle, elephants, and dolphins all served in the Army and Navy at different points. An animal with a job is usually happy even if it was drafted into service. Horses have been used in warfare for as long as they've been domesticated. General Hannibal famously lead his elephants across the Alps and into Italy.

Many of them died on the journey...but it's the thought that counts. In the modern US Military, we use dogs and dolphins to aid us in our mission. In this video, we go over some obscure animals used in ancient armies.
