For-Profit College Controversy Could Be Soon Clarified By New Data

A deputy undersecretary with the Veterans Affairs Department said that the VA may release veteran-specific data on for-profit schools in early 2015. For-profit schools have a long reputation of targeting veterans and exploiting their GI Bill benefits while providing poor education, worthless degrees, and few job opportunities.

Curtis Coy said his agency could release school-by-school, veteran-specific data on a host of academic success and outcome measures as soon as January. While there are still flaws with the plan, the intent is to provide service members and veterans transparent information about which schools offer the best value and experience.
