Syrians threw potatoes and yelled at United States armored vehicles on Monday as U.S. troops drove through the northeast border town of Qamishli, after Trump vowed to pull U.S. troops from Syria.

A video uploaded online by Kurdish news agency ANHA shows civilians shouting “Go, America liar!” and hurling potatoes at a passing convoy of armoured vehicles bearing U.S. flags.

The U.S. troops were leaving northeast Syria, part of the withdrawal ordered by President Donald Trump that opened the way for Turkish troops to launch an offensive against Kurdish fighters in the area.

Trump's move was criticized in Washington and elsewhere as a betrayal of Kurdish allies who had fought for years alongside U.S. troops against Islamic State.
