The Marine Corps is often regarded as America’s first responders; a quick reaction force that’s first into any trouble spots where U.S. interests are threatened. Part of this response is the amphibious capability the Marines are well known for. As such, many of the Marines’ weapons systems are agile, simple to maintain, or easily deployed from ships.

Dave Majumdar, writing for The National Interest, breaks down five of the Marine’s current weapons systems. From the vaunted M1A1 Abrams tank, to the latest version of the venerable Cobra attack helicopter called the AH-1Z, the Marines have some seriously lethal equipment. But the most lethal system might be found in the quintessential Marine Corps axiom: “Every Marine a rifleman.”
