The Ebola outbreak has ignited fears that terrorists could use the virus against the United States; however, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological Defense Programs Andrew Weber says such a risk is extremely low. Ebola does not do well in the environment, according to Weber, making it difficult to infect large masses of people.

“There is a risk that terrorist groups could obtain access to blood or tissue samples,” he says, but only “infect a few people.”
