5 Training Programs To Help You Build A Meaningful Post-Military Career

According to a recent CareerBuilder study, 36% of employers plan to increase their full-time, permanent headcount in 2015, a 12% increase from last year. And a recent RAND Corporation report showed that companies are getting much better at seeing the immense value that comes with a military veteran hire. However, no opportunity is just going to be handed to you; landing a great job takes a lot of time, planning, and preparation.

RR Donnelly, a leading communications firm, offers this developmental role that will expose you to all the major aspects of operating in the fast-paced and rapidly changing printing industry. This training program is offered in Conover and Durham, North Carolina; Cudahy, Wisconsin; Houston, Texas; Laurel, Maryland; Midland, Michigan; and West Columbia, South Carolina.

2. Sales Manager in Training in San Antonio, Texas.

Ever considered going into sales? If so, then consider a sales manager in training role with Carmax. Named one of the Fortune 100 companies to work for in 2014, Carmax offers great career opportunities, training initiatives, and financial incentives for its employees.

3. Management Associate Program in Chatsworth, Georgia.

This new one-year program has been created as a pathway into manufacturing management and development careers with global flooring manufacturer Mohawk Industries. Like working with your hands? In this training initiative, you will learn the different aspects of Mohawk’s carpet manufacturing processes and receive special training in management and leadership skills. You will also rotate assignments with various departments, shifts, and facilities. The program lasts one year and candidates will then be placed into appropriate positions. 4. Summer Branch Analyst Program in multiple locations.

Looking for experience in the finance industry? Morgan Stanley’s summer branch analyst program exposes student veterans to a wide range of career possibilities within the wealth management branch system. While this is not a permanent position, a three-month placement with Morgan Stanley will be a huge addition to your resume and open a ton of doors to future opportunities.

5. Sales and Operations Management Training Program in Akron, Ohio.

If you’re not sure what your next step after the military should be, consider a job with Penske. Through this sales and operations training program, you’ll receive five weeks of personalized training and be coached by managers and peers who started in the same seat. As a transportation services company, Penske has a long reputation for being extremely military-friendly; a reputation that Penske employees stand by. In 2013, 14% of the company’s new hires were veterans.
