One Marine dead, six injured in vehicle rollover at Camp Pendleton

One Marine died and six others were injured after a light armored vehicle rolled over during training at Camp Pendleton on Thursday morning, 1st Marine Division has announced.

The accident involving Marines with 1st Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion happened at around 9 a.m.

“This is a tragic event and our thoughts are with the family, friends, and unit at this difficult time,” 1st Lt. Cameron Edinburgh, a division spokesman, said in a statement.

Per Department of Defense policy, the identity of the deceased Marine is being withheld pending official notification of his or her family. The division said six Marines were taken to a local hospital but “were not seriously injured.”

The incident is under investigation.
