You can now score Tom Cruise’s very own ‘Maverick’ helmet from ‘Top Gun’

You may not have many opportunities to go inverted over an enemy fighter anytime soon, but you can still rock the same style that Pete 'Maverick' Mitchell does in Top Gun thanks to an upcoming auction

You may not have many opportunities to go inverted over an enemy fighter anytime soon, but you can still rock the same style that Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell does in Top Gun thanks to an upcoming auction.

First noticed by our eagle-eyed friends at The War Zone, auction house The Prop Store is holding a live auction in Los Angeles from August 26-27 that includes more than 850 remarkable props from legendary movies.

Those props include Rocky Balboa’s boxing gloves, Obi Wan Kenobi’s lightsaber hilt, and Maverick’s original helmet and oxygen mask from the set of the 1986 film:.

The helmet, a customized Navy Gentex HGU-33 with the telltale ‘Maverick’ splashed across the brow, wasn’t just a helmet: as The War Zone points out, Cruise and other Top Gun actors wore their gear while filming scenes for the classic movie in the back seat of an F-14 Tomcat.

The helmet is expected to sell for around $50,000 at auction, but unfortunately, you won’t be able to grab the matching flight suit, which sold at another Prop Store auction back in September 2017

Then again, there’s always the ‘Barf’ flight suit from Spaceballs, which is also up for auction:
