An F-16 Fighting Falcon crashed during a training flight near Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico on Tuesday, Air Force officials announced .
The aircraft, assigned to the 49th Wing, went down 80 miles southeast of the base around 7:16 pm local time on Tuesday, 49th Wing officials said in a statement on Wednesday.
The pilot successfully ejected from the aircraft and is currently being treated at a local hospital.
The cause of the crash is currently under investigation.
