The Marine Corps is considering a grunt-specific option for Meals Ready to Eat. Considering the fact that infantrymen typically have to field-strip their ration packs to eliminate unnecessary weight during expeditionary missions, it makes sense for the service to consider a lighter option with more essentials.
According to Brig. Gen. Joseph Shrader, commander of Marine Corps Systems Command, “We want to get at that, what they haven’t chucked. Is there a special infantry MRE out there that lends itself to being easy to carry, and lance corporals, don’t have to field strip that trash.”
