The Marine Corps is about to alter the job titles for thousands of Marines to be more gender-neutral. Though “man” will still remain in some of its most iconic occupations like “rifleman” and “mortarman,” 19 of its military occupational specialties are expected to be changed after a review by Navy Secretary Ray Mabus.

A full statement from the Marine Corps is expected in the coming days, which will shed light on the 33 military occupational specialties that were evaluated. According to Marine Corps Times, among those expected to change are the following, which will replace the word “man” with “Marine.”

0300 — Basic infantry Marine.

0312 — Riverine assault craft Marine.

0313 — Light-armor vehicle Marine.

0321 — Reconnaissance Marine (which will also include three other recon-related jobs that include the word “man”).

0351 — Infantry assault Marine.

0800 — Basic field artillery Marine.

0844 — Field artillery fire control Marine.

0847 — Field artillery sensor support Marine.

0861 — Fire support Marine.

0861 — Basic engineer, construction and equipment Marine.

1800 — Basic tank and assault amphibious vehicle Marine.

1812 — Armor Marine.

2141 — Amphibious assault vehicle Marine.

1800 — Amphibious combat vehicle Marine.

Some Marine Corps infantry veterans, like Thomas Gibbons-Neff of The Washington Post and Paul Szoldra of Tech Insider, took to Twitter to discuss the changes.
