It is an indisputable, undeniable truth that veterans absolutely love their post-service beards, and this love makes no exceptions based on rank.
Consider the case of former Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Paul Selva, who retired this past August after 39 years of service in the Air Force with impeccable service-compliant grooming habits.

Thirty-nine years is a hell of a long time to go beardless, and apparently Selva wasted no time sprouting a remarkable display of facial hair, according to a photo of the general accepting an award from the Professional Services Council and the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce earlier this month.

Genghis Khan famously commented that man’s highest joy “is in victory: to conquer one’s enemies; to pursue them; to deprive them of their possessions; to make their beloved weep; to ride on their horses; and to embrace their wives and daughters.”
