Two US service members killed in Afghanistan

Seven other US troops have been killed in Afghanistan so far this year.

Two U.S. troops were killed in Afghanistan on Wednesday, defense officials have announced.

Operation Resolute Support issued a terse news release announcing the latest casualties that did not include any information about the circumstances of their deaths.

No further information was immediately available.

Both service members’ names have not been released pending next of kin notification.

Seven other service members have been killed in Afghanistan this year: Marine Cpl. Robert A. Hendriks, Marine Sgt. Benjamin S. Hines, Marine Staff Sgt. Christopher K.A. Slutman, Special Forces Sgt. 1st Class Will D. Lindsay, Army Spc. Joseph P. Collette, Special Forces Sgt. 1st Class Joshua Z. Beale, and Army Ranger Sgt. Cameron A. Meddock.

Navy veteran Kevin Yali was also killed in a June 19 mortar attack while he was working as a private security contractor, according to NJ.com.
