Former Special Forces Commander Featured In New Anti-Trump Ad

Michael Waltz, a former Special Forces commander who served in Afghanistan and the Middle East, is one of a number of veterans who have recently appeared in ads from groups aiming to prevent Donald Trump from snagging the Republican presidential nomination.

The ads, released by a conservative advocacy group called The American Future Fund, feature veterans calling out Trump for statements about prisoners of war. They end with the text, “Trump’s a phony. Stop him now.”

Over the course of his campaign, Trump has shown disrespect to veterans like 2008 presidential candidate and Vietnam prisoner of war Sen. John McCain, whose heroism Trump called into question because he was captured.

“I like people who weren’t captured,” Trump said in July at the Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa.

In his ad, Waltz said, “Donald Trump hasn’t served in this country a day in his life.”

He also stated that Trump is a draft dodger who has been fed by a silver spoon, and that his comments should be sickening to all service members and veterans.

Waltz is extremely active in the national security field. He served as a senior advisor and policy director in the White House and Pentagon before joining the private sector and is the author of the book, “Warrior Diplomat: A Green Beret’s Battles from Washington to Afghanistan.”
